We are one of three C-Leanship investors who will be sharing our thoughts on the challenges of the shipping industry, and why we are backing C-Leanship to be part of solving them.
At NRP Zero, we’re all about Nordic companies shaking things up in transitioning to sustainable energy. The shipping industry alone is responsible for nearly 3% of global CO₂ emissions, which is set to climb if we don’t act now.
We like to invest in companies that have commercial solutions to challenges in the energy system and that disrupt conventional ways of solving these challenges, independently of subsidies or regulations.
So why C-Leanship, in light of the challenges in the industry?
🔸 Fuel efficiency and the transition to alternative fuels: The price and availability of alternative fuels are key challenges. Over time and with more demand, we believe the price for alternative fuels will eventually decrease. C-Leanship can help accelerate the adoption rate of alternative fuels by improving fuel efficiency through clean hulls. And in the case of electrified ships, fuel efficiency equals energy efficiency.
🔸 Ever stricter emissions regulations: Shipping will face stricter decarbonization requirements. The implementation of EU ETS for shipping and talks from the IMO of introducing a global GHG tax will further strengthen the case for fuel efficiency.
🔸 The environmental impact: The spread of invasive species is threatening global marine ecosystems. Closed-loop systems like C-Leanship’s wastewater collection can help mitigate this.
In short, C-Leanship fits well into our mission to accelerate the energy transition today by providing measurable benefits from day one and laying the groundwork for a sustainable future.
