C-Leanship selected by the MPA of Singapore for In-Water Hull Inspection and Cleaning Innovation Trials

C-Leanship selected to advance and scale up robotic hull cleaning in the Port of Singapore.

Singapore / Copenhagen, April 22, 2026. C-Leanship has been selected by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for its In-Water Hull Inspection and Cleaning Innovation trials in the Port of Singapore. The selection is part of MPA’s broader push to advance and scale up in-water hull inspection and cleaning solutions, in support of more efficient and lower-emission shipping. C-Leanship will receive funding from MPA’s Maritime Innovation and Technology (MINT) Fund.

The call attracted proposals from over 36 companies across nine countries. These innovations aim to advance robotic in-water hull cleaning across several critical areas:
– autonomous and remote operations
– enhanced biofouling waste capture and filtration, and
– cleaning performance in complex hull geometries and challenging port conditions.

As one of the world’s busiest ports and bunkering hubs, Singapore handles a significant volume of vessel traffic. Scaling up high-quality, environmentally responsible hull cleaning in port waters is a strategic priority for Singapore’s and C-Leanship’s maritime sustainability ambitions.

“This grant signals how Singapore’s Maritime Port Authority (MPA) values companies innovating and taking the shipping industry towards a truly sustainable and economically value-additive future. The innovations they are funding with C-Leanship will make biofouling management a fully safe, environmentally protective, and autonomous service for all shipowners visiting Singapore, making Singapore the global benchmark for quality and sustainability in this field.”
Sanjay Vasudevan, CEO, C-Leanship

This grant is a strong vote of confidence from MPA in the role that advanced robotic hull cleaning will play in the future of Maritime Singapore. It allows us to raise the bar for safety, environmental protection, and service efficiency. With this partnership, C-Leanship will set a new benchmark for hull cleaning standards and position Singapore at the forefront of global best practice in hull cleaning and biofouling management.”
Hatta Syahrul, Chief Operational Officer, C-Leanship

About C-Leanship
C-Leanship is a marine technology company specialising in robotic hull cleaning using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Operating across major ports, C-Leanship delivers hull cleaning and inspection services that combine verified performance data, full biofouling waste capture, and no damage to hull coatings, supporting shipowners in reducing fuel costs, lowering emissions, and meeting evolving international biofouling regulations.

About marine biofouling
Biofouling is the build-up of biological growth on a vessel’s hull. It increases hydrodynamic drag, drives up fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and carries significant risk of spreading invasive species across ports and oceans.

What actually comes off a hull when it’s cleaned?

C-Leanship commissioned independent laboratory testing of waste collected during a hull cleaning in Singapore. The results reveal heavy metal concentrations and microplastic loads.
