1. Prepare the plan. It has to include the following vessel-related information:
- Master data and operating profile for the vessel
- Documentation of the anti-fouling system in use and related certificates
- Mapped out systems, hull and niche areas exposed to biofouling risk: external hull surfaces, hull appendages and fittings, steering and propulsion, seawater intakes, and internal seawater cooling systems
And the organizational procedures and employee training in relation to:
- In-water inspection, cleaning, and maintenance between dry docks
- Safety policies according to recommendations provided by your antifouling supplier
- Sustainable disposal of biological waste
2. Prepare a system for the record book or activity journal, with detailed recordings of:
- Data and reports from in-water inspections and cleaning of systems
- Completed maintenance and cleaning actions on systems, hull, and niche areas
3. And prepare the activity log for continuous updates on:
- Periods of time when the vessel was laid up/inactive for an extended period
- Periods of time when the vessel was operating outside its normal operating profile
And voilà—you are one step closer to a plan that will increase vessel efficiency, ensure compliance, and make you an active part of the green transition.
